“Ice Cube’s ten cuts use broad strokes and apoplexy to portray the wild conditions of African-American
life. Calling himself “The Nigga Ya Love To Hate” (sic), Ice Cube shows off the ferocious language and hostile behavior that Public Enemy outclasses. The point of his hard-core epithets and impudent swaggering is to represent the desperate Black underclass whom polite society is trying to sweep under the carpet. They’re the “niggas” who embarrass the Black bourgeoisie, yet, in Ice Cube’s view, they speak the ugly truth about life in America. But this album, I think, is an embarrassment to hip hop…”
